Hello, I am George M. Rodriguez, a Tucson native, born and raised in the Old Pueblo. I come from a family of eight and am fortunate to still have both of my parents. I have four sisters and one brother, and I'm the oldest of the siblings, sharing that role with my twin sister. I am blessed with three wonderful children—a daughter and two sons—as well as a grandson.

Education plays a significant role in our family, with eight members involved in education across elementary, middle, and high school levels. I own a graphic print shop and have been with TUSD for a little over 25 years, serving as an assistant teacher and coaching middle school sports.

I attended the University of Arizona, where I studied business, and Arizona State University, where I pursued social work. In the summer, I work with a youth camp organization called "TGA," where I enjoy guiding young people as they prepare for their futures.

Hello! My name is Mr. Torres. I will be covering various levels of math and science. I am originally from San Diego where I gained 4 years of experience tutoring and teaching different levels of math and science such as: algebra, geometry, chemistry, and physics. Aside from experience in education, I have also worked in construction, groundskeeping, security, and office administration.

Education is where I found that I had the most opportunity to be impactful and helpful, especially having experienced many of the struggles that students face today. When I am able to find some free time, I enjoy a wide assortment of activities. Many are physical like: long-distance running, boxing and hiking, but I also enjoy more simple hobbies like gardening, reading, and photography.

Distance running has been a great teacher because of the principle of endurance. It shows that if we input consistent effort, regardless of distance needed to be covered, the destination will be reached. This goes beyond just sports and school. Many know the saying, "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink." I believe education is like this, but taking it a step further—I like to add, "but you can make it think about how thirsty it is," when I use that saying.

Students are more attentive to a subject when it is related to areas of personal interest. Math and science are some of the most difficult subjects to get students to be enthusiastic about, often producing the question: "when am I going to need this?" My various work experiences provide me with a multitude of examples to connect to professional and personal activities. More hands-on activities help students be more interactive with tangible elements of concepts being presented to them, helping them get a deeper understanding of the subject. I look forward to growing together this year!

I am in my fifth school year with TIA Special Education. I work at both the Midvale campus and the West Campus. While I see students, I also coordinate all of the meetings for students in the district. I am also the parent contact for the meetings and the person that gathers all data so that the meetings with parents can be completed successfully.

My "sidekick" is Rocky. Rocky is my Labradoodle service dog. He comes with me to both schools. Rocky has grown up coming to TIA, and loves to spend time with the students. He has been coming to the school since he was three months old, so the students have had the opportunity to watch him grow up and learn his skills.

In my spare time, I coach youth bowling and am invested in my crafts. I have a 16-year-old at home, and two other pups (Buddy and Stella). I look forward to the school year and feel that we at TIA are the best place that students can find in any school system.

"To have another language is to possess a second soul" – Charlemagne. My name is Karina Leyva, and I was born in Agua Prieta, Sonora Mexico. We came to live in Tucson Arizona when I was eight years old. As a child my mother made sure we never forgot our love for our culture and our native language.

At that time, I did not understand the importance of having a second language but as you grow you become aware of how important it truly is. I've worked with children for the past 18 years. For the past three years I have had the privilege to teach Spanish at Tucson International Academy to our students from kindergarten to high School Seniors.

This has opened the doors for me to be able to share my native language, culture, and history. I am committed to helping students understand the world around them and open their minds to learning and experiencing the Hispanic and Latino Culture.

My name is Lizett Leyva, I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Tucson, Arizona. I am dedicated to nurturing the minds of young learners. My primary focus is helping students develop strong reading skills and expand their English vocabulary and love for language and literature.

I strive to create a supportive learning environment where every student can flourish in their education. I am committed to providing personalized assistance to my students, tailoring my approach to meet the diverse needs of each and every one of them. By fostering a love for reading, I aim to empower students to express themselves confidently.

I'm Mrs. Lidalyn Salde. My journey as an educator has been shaped by the vibrant cultures of the Philippines and Thailand. Having grown up in the Philippines, I carry with me the rich tapestry of experiences from a country known for its warmth, diversity, and strong sense of community.

My educational roots trace back to the Philippines, where I earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a major in General Science. This laid the foundation for my career, and I embarked on a mission to impart knowledge and inspiration to young minds. My transition from the Philippines to Thailand has not only shaped my professional identity but has also fueled my determination to bridge cultures through education.

I look forward to the continued adventure of teaching, inspiring, and contributing to the growth of students at TIA.

As a music specialist, I am honored to provide children at Tucson International Academy the opportunity to experience all of the benefits music education offers. I received my BA from the University of Montana in Music Education and MA in Music Education from the University of Washington. I hold a certification as a k-12 certified music educator.

The unique piece about teaching music at TIA is that the classes are virtual and I am teaching from my office in Seattle, Washington! In our weekly musical classes we play instruments, sing, dance and most of all have fun learning through music. I feel so lucky to be a part of this amazing community of learners.

Inspired by the story of a little girl who stood up for education, I believe every child should have equal access to quality education. Just like Malala's story, education is the key to the change that we want to see.

I am Miss Sheena L Soler, from the beautiful country of the Philippines, consisting of thousands of islands in Southern Asia. I grew up in a lower-middle-class family, but my parents strived hard to send us to school and get a formal education. I graduated with a Bachelor in Secondary Education Major in Chemistry, and from then, I have become an advocate for quality education.

In my 11 years of teaching, I have equipped myself with the knowledge and skills to help students achieve their goals. Education certainly determines the quality of an individual's life. It is an honor to be part of the TIA team this school year. I am looking forward to being part of the change!

I have worked for Tucson International Academy for 10 years! I originally started as a volunteer during their cultural fiestas, such as Chinese New Year, 16 de Septiembre, and Cinco de Mayo while my children attended Tucson International Academy as students. I eventually started helping in the office until the opportunity to be the NSLP at the Midvale Campus arrived in 2012.

I have had the opportunity to make lasting relationships with my co-workers, parents, and students. It has been a pleasure to see these students grow and graduate. It brings joy to my heart!

I went to China Communication University and have a degree in Media Management. In China, I taught Chinese to foreigners before I moved to the U.S. I've been teaching Chinese at TIA since 2012. I have traveled to Thailand, Japan, Korea, China, and around the U.S.

I cannot give a direct translation, but my favorite quote is something like this; "If I walk with two other people, I can learn from at least one of them." It shows humility and the willingness to learn from different people, regardless of their age, background, or beliefs.

I am Mr. Pablo Samaniego. I was born and raised here in Tucson, AZ. I have always enjoyed sports. My favorite teams are the Arizona Diamondbacks, Phoenix Suns, and the Las Vegas Raiders. In High School, I played football and basketball. I have a small loving family, a wife, and two daughters.

As for my educational background, I attend Grand Canyon University. I did not always know what I wanted to do with my life as a career until I realized that working with children was something I enjoyed. That is when I decided to pursue my degree in teaching. I realized at an older age, however, that it is never too late, and that is what I want my students to learn and know that we must always go after our dreams.

I look forward to working with all the students and helping them build their knowledge. I want them to take what they learn and move forward to create a successful future. I am excited to have the opportunity to work with the TIA Midvale Middle School ELA & Social Studies Classes.

I am a Tucson native. I attended and graduated from Tucson High Magnet School, where I was part of the "Marching 100" band, student-athlete, performing Folklorico dance group "Los Tucsonenses," and Mariachi Rayos Del Sol. My favorite subjects are math and Spanish. After high school, I attended the University of Arizona, also Brookline College, with an Associate in Pharmacy.

I am an AmeriCorps Alumni and am a member of the National Honors Society, Alpha Beta Kappa, and the National Pharmacy Technician Association. I am still involved with Folklorico dancing. I spend my free time with my husband and two dogs. We love to go camping, fishing. My favorite quote is "Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the COURAGE TO CONTINUE that counts." – Winston Churchill.

I teach Math and Science for grades 6-12, and I have been a teacher for over 25 years. I have taught in Mexico, Gabon West Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, Spain, and Peru. I have enjoyed being a teacher and consider myself lucky to have traveled doing my job. I graduated with a B. S. in GeoScience from the University of Arizona, as well as an MS from South eastern Florida University in Curriculum Instruction and Technology.

I also have over 70 semester hours in professional development classes. As a military dependent, I have been traveling for most of my life and have been to six of the seven continents and look forward to the day I will be able to go to Antarctica. And it takes one's courage and commitment to dream and make it happen. Madayaw! I am Teacher Markee Narreto and I came all the way from the Southern part of the Philippines — Mindanao.

I graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication and took up Bachelor of Secondary Education in English. I am a journalist and educator by profession. For fifteen years, I have been teaching in many colleges and universities in my home country while working in a broadcast network at the same time. For six years, I have had the chance to work with the Department of Education, teaching Senior High School learners specializing in Literary Arts, Media Communication, and Theatrical Production.

My penchant for teaching has made me so engrossed and feel invested with my craft. It is what keeps my motor rolling and expand my horizon to inspire more learners overseas. I am an actor, writer, filmmaker, and mover. I am looking forward to having you in my class as we engage, explore and experience ELA and Social Studies together! Harinawa!

As an educator, my top priority is the best way to communicate the new concepts your student will learn. I was born in Nogales, Sonora Mexico and immigrated to the United States when I was 7. I am very proud of being Mexican and equally proud of living in this great country. Teaching is something I have always wanted to do, for me it is not only a profession but a passion. I have taught for 20 years, 10 of which I taught Kindergarten in Euless, Texas.

When I moved to Tucson, I found a dynamic school Tucson International Academy, which not only had high academic standards but a rich sense of community. Academically, I started at Northern Arizona University but completed my degree online. I taught Kindergarten for 10 years at Metroplex Academy, from 1997 – 2007.

When I learned that my youngest son had autism in 2009, I moved to Tucson, Arizona. I taught at Tucson International Academy West for 11 years, teaching Kindergarten and 1st Grade. Thank you for entrusting me with your students.
